Pay it Forward: A New Line of Packaging

I recently read an article on Handmadeology about Going Green with Packaging by Trashn2Tees. And it really made me think. I am all for adorable packaging. In fact, I think its the only way to go. When someone buys my jewelry I want them to receive it like a gift. I started with my brown paper bag packaging line back 3 years ago when I first started doing jewelry parties. I tied all the bags with little ribbons, filled them with beautiful tissue paper, stamped them and added a rhinestone and people thought it was the coolest thing ever.

I also package all of my earrings on a handpainted watercolor tag (I used to use handpainted watercolor paper for all of my business cards too but it took way too long as I expanded). And the result is pretty darn cute I must say.

And then I found this article, also from handmadeology, on making paper boxes out of cardboard. I didn't have any cardboard so I used an old ceral box. I started making boxes and boxes out of old cereal, pasta, cracker, ect. cardboard boxes, and I realized that this was a really cool way to recycle.

After reading about the going green packaging TrashN2Tees was promoting on their blog, I decided I was going to start a whole new line of packaging, the "Pay it Forward Packaging Line". By using recycled brown paper and recycled cardboard for my designs I will be doing the enviornment a favor, but I am also going to market my line to my customers and ask that when they buy a product from me and recieve it in such packaging, that they recycle as well and reuse it.

Instead of letting the pretty packaging sit on the kitchen counter for a few weeks and then disgarding it, I'm asking them to save/use the stamped and rhinestoned box, tissue paper, ribbons, ect. in order to package a gift to someone else. That's right, its a kind of regifting thats classy and sinless.

If we all work together, and by taking little steps we can make a difference. I'm going to try to do my part. Lets all make the world a little bit better :)

Wow Chelsea, that packaging looks fantastic! I think that the colored tissue paper and the stamp really add an extra (blam!) factor. I'm tickled that my TrashN2Tees post inspired this new line of packaging! I hope that you'll consider adding a picture of your packaging to your listings on Etsy- in my opinion it will absolutely seal some deals for you, especially for those who are looking to send out jewelry as a gift. (bonus already rad pacakging!) Happy Sales!

That packaging is adorable! I definitely like the idea of encouraging your customers to reuse the packaging- it's less wasteful and plus, it's so cute! I really like the stamps!
